Austria is getting a new festival, and it’s about time. At the Take Festival for Independent Fashion and Arts everything revolves around creativity in art and fashion. From April 19 to 23, the Alte Post building at the Dominikanerbastei transforms into a hub for the experience of and discourse on art.
Fuzzy boundaries between fashion and art
Contemporary fashion design stands at the heart of the Take Festival, but there’s plenty of room for neighbouring disciplines like art and everyday culture as well. The festival approaches these creative disciplines, and everything in between, critically.
The organisers want the festival to be accessible to a broad audience and to give insight into creative processes that aren’t always visible to the public. At Take Festival, critical questions are not only allowed, but most welcome.
Performances, parties and panel discussions
The Take Festival programme is a colourful mix of events and should offer something for everyone: fashion, accessories and jewellery design; art, photography and film. The festival pays attention to up and coming talents in particular.
A highlight of the five-day programme is the third AFA-Austrian Fashion Awards. Furthermore, the AFA award ceremony on April 19 constitutes the official opening of the whole festival.
Another fashion-focused event is departure fashion night on April 21: departure (Vienna Business Agency) has selected and funded five designers and labels to present their collections at this event.
Plenty of projects at the Take Parcours
Take Festival doesn’t just present big shows with big names. The Take Parcours gives a variety of smaller projects the opportunity to present their work. From April 20 to 23, Take Parcours features exhibitions, performances and fashion projects by a variety of artists.
A handful of talks complete the festival programme. On April 21, “Die Presse Schaufenster”-Talk takes a closer look at the future of the radically changing world of fashion.
On April 23, in turn, the topic is crowdfunding in fashion. A workshop teaches attendees the basics. In the subsequent keynote speech and talk, crowdfunding experts reveal insights, tips and tricks.
Take Festival package: All events included
Visitors can buy tickets for specific shows, events or festival days, or spring for the complete Take Festival package. At € 65 the complete ticket is rather moderately priced and should really make the festival accessible for as many people as possible.
Of course, the festival parties are included in the package, for instance the Take Festival for Independent Fashion and Arts OFFICIAL PARTY on April 22 and the closing party on April 23, which is a conjoined effort of Take Festival and sound:frame Festival.
The organisers behind Take Festival are the Austrian Fashion Association and agency creative headz. The location Alte Post is a beautiful building in Vienna’s historic city centre. The building, which used to house the headquarter of the Austrian postal service, will be converted in 2017 but, until then, it has opened its doors to creative and cultural ventures of all kinds.
